What is LDM?
In cargo transportation, Loading Meters (LDM) are widely used. Any costs associated with cargo transportation using a curtain-sided trailer are determined based on loading meters.
This unit of measurement is mainly used in European truck transport.
These meters are calculated using the formula: Cargo Length x Cargo Width / 2.4 (standard trailer width) = LDM.
For example, the size of Euro pallets is 1.2 m x 0.8 m / 2.4 m = 0.4 LDM.
The most common length for cargo trucks in Europe is 13.6 meters. This size has practical reasoning, as it allows loading 33 Euro pallets (0.8 m x 1.2 m) in such a trailer.
■ Maximum number of Euro pallets: 33
■ Maximum number of Finnish pallets: 26
■ Maximum number of industrial pallets: 22
■ Maximum load capacity of one trailer: 24,000 kg
